I told a colleague that I had seen pictures of the Kumbh Mela where tens of millions of Hindus were seen taking dips vigorously in the Ganges river, and some of them were actually jumping in the water. I asked if she thought that tens of millions Indians and elephants congregating in one spot may have knocked the earth's tectonic plates out of alignment causing the earthquake in the Himalayan foot-hills.
"No, I don't," she said a bit insulted. "We are a very clean people. It's considered good karma to start each day with a bath."
Before I could stop myself I blurted out, "Yeah, but not in a river full of elephant shit!"
